What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a cutting-edge brain-body based therapy developed by David Grand, Ph.D. Current developments in neuroscience are showing us that adverse experiences get stuck in the mid-brain and that this can effect our present day behavior. Our eyes connect directly into the mid-brain, and by processing via the eyes, we can release experiences out of the body and brain. This supports resolution of the adverse experience so that normal functioning can resume.
How does Brainspotting work?
Brainspotting works on the basis that where we look effects how we feel. During a Brainspotting session, a pointer is moved across the visual field while the client notices activation in the body. Once an activated area has been located, processing begins by adding bilateral music and maintaining the exact activation point in the visual field, while the therapist attunes to the client. I have experienced deep and rapid processing with clients using this modality, and I am excited to be offering it in my practice.
