What is EMDR therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress. Research shows that EMDR is rapid, safe and effective, and it is a modality endorsed by the American Psychological Association, the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans' Affairs and others. Studies have consistently found that for the majority of clients, EMDR decreases or eliminates residual symptoms from prior adverse experiences. By rapidly processing old memories, thoughts and feelings, EMDR releases emotional experiences that are stuck in the brain and nervous system so that new states of equilibrium are reached. Consequently, residual symptoms, outdated negative beliefs about the self, and old ways of relating are able to shift, creating measurable changes in the emotional areas of the brain and nervous system.

What is AF-EMDR?

Attachment-Focused EMDR is a system developed by Laurel Parnell, PhD to specifically address deficits created by relational trauma and emotional neglect or abuse in childhood, including caregiver misattunement, early losses, medical traumas and family difficulties. AF-EMDR is particularly effective at addressing resulting issues in adult life such, as relationship and work difficulties, or a lack of fulfillment and aliveness.
